Florida woman is arrested for allegedly smearing feces on her son

Tania Contreras, 39, has been charged with aggravated child abuse.

She allegedly smeared her son with feces as punishment for soiling himself, authorities reported.

The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) began an investigation against the Contreras on May 11 after receiving a tip through the child abuse hotline.

What prompted the DCF agent to visit the house where Contreras lived has not been disclosed.

However, the arrest warrant describes disturbing injuries on her son’s body.

«She became enraged because her son had been sitting in his own feces for most of the day without telling her,» the DCF official wrote in the court report.

During the police interview, Contreras did not deny the mistreatment of her son.

She is accused of child abuse

Tania Contreras showed the officer a video on her phone where «the child was seen crying with feces on his face, chest and arms,» according to the the report from the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Contreras’ son then underwent a medical examination, according to the sheriff’s report.

Doctors found multiple scratches and bruises on his legs and arms, a large bruise on his back, a large round scar on the top of his right wrist and another scar on his right leg.

In her sworn statement Tania Contreras did not deny any of the abuse.

She tried to justify what she did to her son

On the contrary, Contreras justified it by claiming: «Physical punishment is normal in her home country, Venezuela,» wrote the detective.

She admitted that she frequently hit her son to correct his disobedience.

She said that she whipped him with a belt for getting out of the car before her when they were shopping and hit him on the head with a cellphone after he broke the screen, the Broward agent details.

Faced with the allegations presented in court, Contreras is now behind bars.

Tania Contreras was fined $15,000 and ordered to be jailed in the North Broward Bureau prison with an immigration hold order.

The charges, according to the court, could increase after receiving the full report on the medical and psychological assessment of the victim.

Despite being a minor, the officers did not indicate who took custody of the child.
